Update 9/6/2010 @ 06:00
The decision has been taken not to stage the Llyn Brenig 9M MT race this year.
The event which was scheduled for the 4th September will not now be organised by Wrexham AAC.
The reason for this decision is that the organiser has been beaten by the health and safety requirements of staging such a race, in particular the mandate to complete a risk assessment.
Whilst it is understood how important this exercise is for the safety and well-being of all the athletes the over head of completing the assessment due to the distance of Llyn Brenig from Wrexham will prove to be too costly both in terms of time and travelling expenses as a number of trips will be required over a number of weekends (Please remember these races are organised by volunteers in their spare time whilst still having work during the week.) As we are unable to offer an assessment that the race is safe we will not be allowed to stage the event. It is therefore with much regret that Wrexham AAC with not be organising the 2010 race.
Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon Final Account Update
Update 27/5/2010 @ 18:30
As promised on our original web item following the cancellation of the 2010 race Wrexham AAC is now able to share the final account details.
In our original web item (Dated 24/02/2010 please see further down the page) we mentioned that the race in terms of club financing is our life blood and is our primary source of income. The revenue allows us to support our junior athletics programme and fixtures during the summer month’s young athlete’s leagues & winter cross country leagues. We were also very mindful of the commitment and preparations made by the Club House (Race Venue) and stated that we will be making a payment to show our appreciation for their ongoing support for our events and providing us with a base from where to stage our races.
We also stated that Wrexham AAC often makes charitable donations from race profits and the organising committee felt very strongly that despite the unfortunate turn in the weather we wanted to continue with this tradition and hoped to make a donation of at least £500 to Hope House Hospice.
Your support and generosity surpassed our wildest dreams only 130 athletes out of over 500 requested refunds which reflects’ the generosity of the running fraternity. The value of the cheques presented to the bank was £4516.50. For this the club will always be grateful and our junior athletes will be able to compete in all their normal summer leagues and winter cross country activities during 2010/11.
The club committee has at its meeting on 26/5/2010 approved the following distribution of monies collected.
Total cheques presented to the bank £4516.50
Donation to “The Club House” (Race Venue) £ 250.00
Donation to Air Cadets (Car park attendants) £ 50.00
Donation to Ray Jarvis and his special needs group who assist with race day marshalling £ 50.00
Donation to “Hope House Hospice” £1000.00
Donation to “Nightingale House Hospice” £ 750.00
Total donated to charity and good causes £2100.00
Remaining balance £2416.50
Cheques returned by the bank (cancelled, accounts closed etc) £164.00
Organiser’s expenses £150.00
Total expenses and misc expenditure £314.00
Remaining balance £2102.50
Wrexham AAC club funds to be used to support junior athletics
(transport costs to Young Athletic Leagues etc. Each team bus
cost between £300 and £500 pounds depending upon distance
travelled) £2102.50
Total to WAAC club funds £2102.50
Remaining balance £0.00
After deductions of cancelled cheques and organisers expenses your kind donations allowed us donate £2100 to charity and good causes. Your amazing generosity has allowed us to double our planned donation of £500 to Hope House Hospice. Even after this £1000 donation we were still able to donate £750 pounds to Nightingale House Hospice and also acknowledge the support we get each year in staging this and other races from Ray Jarvis and his team, the Air Cadets and the Club House. Without all of whom there would not be a race.
The split between the good causes and club funds is approximately half and half and we hope this meets with your approval. Wrexham AAC is extremely grateful to you all for your understanding and support it really is appreciated. It will help keep the club financially sound during 2010/11. Our thoughts are already on organising the 2011 Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon and we sincerely hope you will be able to run the race and that next year the weather is kinder to us. When agreed the race date will be published on this web site.
Once again many, many thanks to you all.

Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon - Refunds date extended to 21/4/10
Update 31/3/10 @ 20:30 (email address corrected 14/4/10 @20:30)
Recent feed back regarding the visibility of the Village Bakery Wrexham half marathon updates suggest that they have not been prominent enough and some people have missed the published deadline for refunds. This hopefully we have now rectified.
It was with much regret that that we could not rearrange the race for 2010 as Wrexham AAC always has the athletes at its heart; it is the reason the club exists. The last thing we want to do is upset anyone and we want to be fair with everyone, to this end we are extending the date for refunds until April 21st 2010. If you haven’t seen our previous updates and you would like your cheque to be returned will you please send your race number and enclose a stamped self addressed envelope to:
Peter Jones 45 Cherry Tree Rd, Bradley, Wrexham. LL11 4DN.
If you have already cancelled your cheque or prefer that we do not present your cheque to the bank you may email Peter at jones.anne52@yahoo.co.uk
As mentioned in our original update below on the 24/02/2010 Wrexham AAC are still hoping to make charitable donations as we often do from race profits and the organising committee would still like to continue with this course of action and hope to make a donation to Hope House Hospice.
The Village Bakery half marathon is cancelled for 2010 but we hope to see you all again for the 2011 staging of the event.

Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon 2010 Update 24/02/10 19:30 It was with much regret that the Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon had to be cancelled due to the overnight snow fall. The organisers have been working hard since the cancellation to find a suitable date to reschedule the race. Trying to find a date that fits in to the race calendar and one where the race venue is not already booked with other events has unfortunately proved impossible. The decision has therefore been taken not to rearrange the 2010 race. We have not taken this decision likely as the race in terms of club financing is our life blood and is our primary source of income. The revenue allows us to support our junior athletics programme and fixtures during the summer months young athlete’s leagues. Wrexham AAC also often makes charitable donations from race profits and the organising committee feels very strongly that despite the unfortunate turn in the weather we will continue with this course of action and hope to make a donation of at least £500 to Hope House Hospice. The committee are also very mindful of the commitment and preparations made by the Club House (Race Venue) and we will be making a payment to show our appreciation for their ongoing support for our events and providing us with a base from where to stage our races. Peter Jones, who has been taking your entries and issuing your numbers, has not cashed any cheques. This therefore allows us easily to arrange the refunding of race entry fees to those of you who would like one: If you would like your cheque to be returned will you please send your race number and enclose a stamped self addressed envelope to: Peter Jones 45 Cherry Tree Rd, Bradley, Wrexham. LL11 4DN
| Can we ask that you do this by 21st March 2010 after this date we will bank the remaining cheques and wind up the race account to determine the exact amount we can donate to Hope House Hospice. We will via this web site publish a statement of the final race account. Finally Wrexham AAC would like to thank you all for supporting our event; it is your participation that makes it all worthwhile. We have this time been beaten by the weather but we will continue organising quality road race events within the Wrexham area during 2010. You may wish to consider entering the Farndon 10K road race on Sunday March the 7th or the Wrexham 10 mile race to be staged at the same venue as the half marathon on April the 24th. If you want to participate in a charity 5K fun run you can always bring the family along to the Mayor’s Charity Fun Run on the 18th April 2010 starting and finishing at Ysgol y Grango Rhos Wrexham Please see our website for further details and entry forms http://wrexhamroadrunners.org.uk/ |
